When people ask me where I’m from, I don’t really know what to say. I don’t even know where to call “Home”. Currently I’m living in Manchester, having recently moved from London, but I spent my childhood between the South of England, Yorkshire, the Far East and the Middle East; and early adulthood in Wales (and backpacking around the world by train). I suppose, as a result travelling is something that feels natural to me. I like to think it’s in my blood. Actually, let me rephrase that: Travelling scares me, causes me incredible anxiety (and sometimes tears), is challenging, and is frustrating at times… but it also excites me, inspires me, and most of all makes me feel alive. This especially applies to train travel.
Train travel is so romantic. Sure, it can be dirty, and crowded, and loud… and at times it can resemble hell on Earth (flash back to a journey through China that I’m still not over), but you just can’t beat watching the landscape roll by, and feeling the distance between places, as the train chug-chug-chugs you along. After all, it’s the journey, not the destination, that counts.
In this website I hope to share my journey with everything railway related – from travel, to models; to books and films; and anything else I can think of in between. Just click on the ‘Blog’ tab on the top menu bar to start reading. And I’d love to hear from you, and your experiences with railways (real or model!)… especially if, like me, you are female. I haven’t met any other female model railroaders, so please contact me if you are one!
